Throne of Weapons
Courtesy of The British Museum, The Throne of Weapons ended its UK tour by visiting the CarAf Centre on the 10th December 2005. The display was open free to the public with a presentation and discussion. After the end of the Mozambique civil war in 1992 weapons of death and destruction were reclaimed in a Gun Amnesty and exchanged for tools which local people desperately needed. Perhaps due to a lack of materials and resources, local African artistes used the redundant weapons such as AK-47s and transformed them into symbols of peace. The ‘Throne of Weapons’ was one of many such pieces of art. Following the success of the event and a request from a child, The CarAf Centre held is very own ‘Toy Gun Amnesty’.
